Keep your bouquets fresh and beautiful! Beth’s Flowers shares expert flower care tips to help your arrangements last longer and bloom brighter.
The Joy of Fresh Flowers
Few things brighten a room like a fresh floral arrangement. Whether it’s a romantic bouquet, a birthday gift, or a centerpiece for your home, flowers bring life and beauty to every occasion. But without proper care, they can fade too soon. At Beth’s Flowers, we want your blooms to last as long as possible. Here are our best tips for keeping arrangements fresh and vibrant.
Step 1: Start with a Clean Vase
Before placing your flowers in water, make sure the vase is thoroughly cleaned. Bacteria in dirty containers is the fastest way to shorten the life of your blooms.
Step 2: Trim the Stems
Use sharp scissors or floral shears to cut 1–2 inches off the stems at a 45-degree angle. This allows better water absorption. Re-trim the stems every few days to keep them fresh.
Step 3: Use Fresh, Cool Water
Fill the vase with cool, clean water. Replace the water every 2–3 days to prevent bacteria buildup. For added freshness, mix in the flower food packet provided with your arrangement.
Step 4: Remove Extra Leaves
Any leaves sitting below the water line should be removed to prevent rot and bacteria. This simple step keeps water clean and flowers healthier.
Step 5: Keep Them Cool
Flowers last longest in cooler environments. Keep arrangements away from direct sunlight, heaters, and drafts. A cool spot in your home ensures blooms stay fresh longer.
Step 6: Revive Drooping Flowers
If blooms start to wilt, try re-cutting the stems and placing them in fresh water. Some flowers, like roses, perk up when placed in lukewarm water for an hour or two.
Step 7: Special Care for Different Blooms
Roses: Remove guard petals and change water often.
Tulips: Keep them in tall vases, as they continue to grow after cutting.
Lilies: Remove pollen to prevent staining and extend bloom life.
Orchids: Mist lightly with water to maintain humidity.
